Connan Coker
Minister of Music and Worship, First Baptist Church, Tyler

A graduate of Baylor University, Connan earned a BA in Church Music and then went on to be the first graduate from George W. Truett Seminary and Baylor with the newly offered duel Master of Music and Master of Divinity degrees. As the son of a Music Minister, Connan grew up with a love for the church and for music, but it was a Baylor lecture series on worship that ignited a passion for worship arts and education. He has shared this passion through workshops, lectures, small group studies, and leading worship for a wide variety of groups including the Baptist Youth World Alliance, and the San Antonio Baptist Associational youth camp.
Upon graduation, Connan served as Director of Music for City Children, an after school and summer day camp program for inner-city children in San Antonio, where his duties included teaching children, composing curriculum and coordinating community events. During his five years in San Antonio, Connan also led worship for a church plant and taught a music and worship course at the Baptist University of the Americas.
Currently serving as the Minister of Music and Worship at First Baptist Church, Tyler, Texas. A former three-time winner of the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition, Connan enjoys singing in addition to collecting a variety of instruments, playing the guitar and woodworking – if there's ever time. He and his wife Carrie have three children.
