The Dunn Center for Christian Music Studies hosted the Spring 2024 Hearn Innovators in Christian Music Series with artist and worship pastor Laura Story February 26-28. Made possible by an endowment from the generosity of the late Billy Ray Hearn, this series is designed to bring innovators in the field of Christian music to Baylor’s campus for interactions between the guest and Baylor students. Over the course three days, Laura gave a public presentation, attended church music classes, and shared meals and coffee times with students. Laura’s presence brings decades of church leadership experience as well as her unique approach to songwriting and music composition.

Laura Story is an individual whose life and diverse work beautifully intertwine the realms of faith, music, and literature. She is a Bible teacher, worship leader, singer/songwriter, and bestselling author. Her musical compositions boast Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, and Dove Awards-winning songs, including the iconic "Blessings," "Mighty to Save," and Chris Tomlin's "Indescribable."

"The opportunity to have met Laura Story with other church music students was a huge blessing,” said Sarah Martinez, a graduate student in Church Music. “In my faith journey, her songs have been a vessel for worship for many years so to meet and hear from her conversationally was an encouragement.” When asked what was most meaningful and valuable about the Hearn Series, Sarah said, “what was the most valuable insight was her thoughts on worship and how the heart is more important than the music itself. Her testimony and humility were a lesson in and of themselves.”
