A Journey of Worship, Service, and Discovery: Baylor Students in Kenya

On Sunday, May 18, a group of Baylor students and leaders depart Waco for an unforgettable journey to Kenya — a trip rooted in worship, service, and cultural exchange. After arriving in Nairobi the following evening, the team makes their way to Subiaco Retreat Centre, their first home base in the country.
The adventure quickly unfolds as the group travels to Nakuru on Tuesday, May 20, where they are graciously hosted at the Tocco family compound, affiliated with Word Ablaze ministries. From there, they journey to Marigat and share music and encouragement through a performance at St. Joseph Boarding School. During this portion of the trip, they lodge at Sundai Guest House, which becomes their hub for the service-focused part of the week.
On May 22 and 23, the group spends two impactful days in Komolion Village, beginning and completing a series of hands-on service projects in collaboration with the local community. The work is physically demanding yet deeply fulfilling, fostering lasting connections and shared joy across cultures.
They return to Nakuru on Saturday, May 24, and the following day, join local congregations for worship, deepening their spiritual journey through fellowship and praise.
On Monday, May 26, the focus shifts to exploring Kenya’s natural beauty, as the team travels to the renowned Maasai Mara for a two-day safari experience. Staying at the Fig Tree Safari Lodge, the group enjoys multiple game drives, encountering Kenya’s iconic wildlife in its natural habitat — a true highlight of the trip.
Returning to Nairobi on May 28, the group settles again at Subiaco Retreat Centre. The next day includes visits to Amani ya Juu and Kazuri Beads — two organizations that empower women through artisan work. These visits offer a meaningful glimpse into community development through creativity and enterprise.
The final days of the trip continue in the spirit of service and connection. On May 30, the team travels to Kajiado to sing at the AIC Girls School, followed by a return to Nairobi. On Saturday, May 31, they serve at Pendo Amani in Juja, a ministry dedicated to vulnerable populations.
With full hearts and many stories to share, the team departs Nairobi on Sunday, June 1, returning to Waco the next day. This journey to Kenya is more than a trip — it is a time of growth, worship, cultural immersion, and deep service that leaves a lasting impact on each participant.
