Undergraduate Church Music Award

The Outstanding Church Music Award is given each year to the Bachelor of Music in Church Music graduating senior who is deemed by the church music faculty to be the outstanding church music student in his/her graduating class.  The recipient receives a plaque and his/her name is placed on the permanent plaque that hangs in the church music office. This year’s outstanding student has sung in Men’s Choir, Concert Choir, and played saxophone in numerous instrumental ensembles. Evan will get married this summer and move with his new wife to North Carolina where she will begin graduate work at Duke, and he will seek a church music ministry position.. This year’s Outstanding Church Music Award was presented to Evan Rivera (Evan was recently highlighted in our early April Student Spotlight)

Graduate Church Music Award

The Church Music Graduate Student Award honors the graduating church music graduate student who is deemed most outstanding by the church music faculty. This year’s recipient earned his undergraduate degree at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas and will receive the Master of Music in Church Music degree in May.  During his time at Baylor, he sang with the Baylor Men’s Choir, and traveled with two music and mission’s groups. After graduation, he will pursue ministry opportunities in the Gulfport, Mississippi area. We are pleased to present the Graduate Church Music Award to Logan Moore.

Ray Luper Church Music Award

The Ray Luper Church Music Scholarship is named for Dr. Ray Luper who was a professor of church music at Baylor for many years.  During his distinguished career, Dr. Luper taught generations of church musicians who now serve churches around the world.  Dr. Luper retired from Baylor in May 1999, and died shortly afterward. This scholarship was established in his honor in 2003 and is awarded to the outstanding rising senior church music major. This year’s award winner has sung in numerous Baylor Choirs and been an active participant in church music events. This year’s Ray Luper Church Music Scholarship was presented to Zariel Rivas.
