Judy Cooper
Church Musician
Church music has been an important aspect of Judy Cooper’s entire life. She has sung in many church choirs including children’s choir, youth choir, college choir, and adult choirs. She has been involved in several different handbell choirs and other church ensembles. Judy’s father, Dr. Ray F. Luper, led the way as a great example of how one can serve through music, and frequently recruited Judy and her siblings for various music roles. Judy served as a children’s choir leader and the children’s choir coordinator at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, Waco, for over twenty years. Currently she sings in the Intergenerational Choir at Calvary Baptist Church, Waco, where she also leads a youth handbell choir.
Judy grew up primarily in Waco, from fourth grade through Baylor Graduation with a BME in 1987. While at Baylor, Judy sang in the A Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers, as well as the Columbus Singers at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. She taught elementary music in Garland ISD and La Vega ISD before staying home with children and switching to church leadership roles. She has been happily married to Dr. Monte Cooper since 1990, and they have two married sons, Reed and wife, Briana, and Evan and wife, Jessica. (Reed enjoyed singing with Dr. Bradley in Men’s Choir during his time at Baylor.) In addition to the choir at Calvary Baptist, Judy sings in the Central Texas Choral Society. She and Monte enjoy supporting the Baylor Bears, traveling, and staying active.
